The master’s degree specialty and graduate certificate in Strategic Innovation and Change can be earned entirely online or evenings on campus.
Strategic innovation and change requires several factors for successful implementation. Beginning with a clear mission, strategic planning is an iterative, dynamic process of translating the mission into a series of goals and outcomes using the vision, values, and mission as a overall guide. As part of the larger picture, environmental scanning is an important process that identifies and evaluates external factors that may affect an organization on either a micro or a macro level and also provides a picture of the current situation. The effect of change and the process of change within an organization is explored. Organizations are analyzed from the viewpoint of strategic alignment of their critical frames of operation including financial management and aligning budget and planning with institutional goals. Finally the understanding that innovation is not a one time event; that it is part of a larger process and vision is discussed throughout the specialty.
The Strategic Innovation and Change program will prepare students to:
• Define the role of mission, vision, values, and goals as a start of strategic planning
• Articulate and discuss the advantages and limitations of the strategic planning process
• Identify the areas to be addressed in implementing innovation and change; customers, competitors, suppliers, technology;social, political, economic conditions
• Explore the change theories and concepts and skills required for effective and ethical change leadership and how the relationships within an organization are affected
• Discuss how financial
Program Requirements
Total 48 credit hours
Students are required to take MALS 4020 within their first three quarters at University College
Core - 8 qtr. hrs
Professional Foundation Courses - 12 qtr. hrs
Speciality Courses - 16 qtr. hrs
Further Study - 12 qtr. hrs
Admissions Requirements
Candidates for Master's degree programs are evaluated based on the following criteria:
Entrance examinations such as the GRE or GMAT are NOT required.
An earned a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education is required.
Applicants must have earned a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) in their undergraduate work. Applicants with lower GPAs may be accepted on a provisional basis.
The applicant's professional commitment and written language skills are evaluated through the essay, and the confidential recommendations, both submitted as part of the admissions packet.
