Admission Requirements

Candidates for master's degrees at University College are evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Earned a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale in previous undergraduate work or a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale for the last 60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits (approximately two years of work) for the baccalaureate degree.
    • An earned master's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution supersedes the minimum standards for the baccalaureate. For applicants with graduate coursework but who have not earned a master's degree or higher, the GPA from the graduate work may be used to meet the requirement. The minimum GPA is a cumulative 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for all graduate coursework undertaken.
No Standardized Tests
University College does not require GRE or GMAT scores because we believe testing doesn't predict success. As a professional, your experience speaks volumes and our other admission criteria paints a better picture of your potential.

Application Checklist

Complete the following to apply to a master's degree program.

  • Application Form

    Start an application using your email address, name, and birthdate (you will receive a temporary PIN) at gradadmissions.du.edu/apply. Applications for the University of Denver must be submitted online.

  • Application Fee

    A $75 non-refundable application fee is required. Pay online or via mail by check or money order.

  • Official Transcripts

    A regionally accredited baccalaureate degree is required for admission. Submit one official transcript from each college or university. This includes transcripts for credit earned as transfer work and study abroad. In order to be considered "Official" transcripts must be sent electronically by the issuing college or university using a third-party agency to ucoladm@du.edu. Official transcripts may also be sent via postal mail in an unopened envelope that has been sealed by the issuing university.

  • Two References

    The names and email addresses for two references (former or current instructors, supervisors, coworkers, community connections) are required. Reference requests are sent to your recommender via email once you complete that portion of the application.

  • Personal Statement

    A personal statement (two-pages double-spaced, 450-550 words) is required and should be submitted via the application status page. It should include information on how this program will enhance your career and meet educational goals.

  • Résumé

    Submit a résumé via the application status page listing your current employer(s) and professional experiences.

  • Programs with Additional Requirements

The admission committee reserves the right to request a phone interview when reviewing an admission application. Applications and fees are valid for the term for which you have applied, after which point you may be asked to submit an updated application and fee to re-activate your application file. All materials submitted as part of any application for admission to the University of Denver become property of the University of Denver. Materials will not be copied, returned, or released to the applicant or any third party.

Transfer Credits

You may transfer up to 12 credit hours toward a master's degree as long as the graduate coursework and credit hours were earned within a five year period preceding the request for transfer hours from a regionally accredited institution. All transfer credit must carry a minimum grade of B and may not have been applied toward another degree program.

Dual Degree

Students with two strong program interests may propose completing a dual degree program, linking two master's degrees or a master's degree and a JD degree, and in doing so reduce the combined number of credits for two individual degrees on average by 16 credits (4 courses).
