Significant Healthcare Policy and Law

This course provides a foundational overview of healthcare law and the sources of law, as well as the distinction between healthcare law and policy. Throughout the course, learners will examine major federal healthcare laws and policies and understand their relationship with stakeholders such as patients, providers, payers, lobbyists, and public health, all through a health equity lens. Learners will examine the intersection of traditional areas of law and healthcare, including torts, antitrust, contracts, and intellectual property. They will then delve deeper into understanding major healthcare policies, such as Medicare Part D and the Affordable Care Act (ACA), to include the Supreme Court’s landmark decision regarding the ACA. This is a robust course with significant independent work/research on the part of learners and should be taken after introductory and concentration courses.
