Sherri Mae
Bio
Sherri Mae is a seasoned leader with over 20 years of experience in developing, integrating and implementing local and global environmental and sustainability strategies and programs. She has a profound understanding of conventional and innovative ESG impact strategies and how to balance the triple bottom line of people, planet and profit on the journey to being resource positive.
Education
Sherri earned her Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering from Penn State University and her Master of Applied Science in Environmental Policy and Management from the University of Denver.
Professional Background
Sherri is currently the Director of Environmental Affairs at Danone North America Public Benefit Corporation, a large global matrixed food manufacturing organization. In this only role of its kind globally, she evolves environmental and sustainability strategies, programs and initiatives to deliver measurable impact reductions, ensure compliance and maintain business continuity. Previously, she held similar roles at various manufacturing and not-for-profit organizations. In 2018, Sherri pioneered Danone’s first Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWTL) initiative for North America setting a new global company standard. In 2022, she obtained strategic organizational alignment to publicly announce the goal to achieve ZWTL in North America by 2025. She has provided subject matter expertise at numerous conferences, forums and seminars including NAEM Sustainability and ESG Reporting Solve-It Series in 2021 and Futureproofing the Food System Fireside Chat at the Food Navigator Summit in 2022.
Motivation for Teaching
Sherri is a purpose-driven leader who has a passion for being a force for good and seeks to empower credible and successful environmental and sustainability professionals. Her time in this dynamic field has developed her change agility and innovation, such as developing data-driven scalable solutions to drive continuous improvements and sustained results, which she hopes to pass on to upcoming sustainability leaders. As a graduate of UCOL, Sherri loves having the opportunity to give back to DU and pay it forward.
Helping Students Be Successful
Sherri teaches her students how organizations are empowered to be a force for good, define meaningful and manageable environmental and sustainability strategies and assess risks and opportunities to deliver the most impact and value through real-life examples and sharing relevant current events. She is readily available via email and virtual office hours to answer questions, provide career and professional development and offer insights from the public benefit corporation world.
