Anita “Lee” Mitchell
Bio
Lee Mitchell is a researcher with the Oregon Institute of Technology’s AIRE Center. She currently leverages her background in applying geospatial technologies to support decision-making in order to explore differential risks and responses to climate hazards. She is exploring health impacts from wildfire smoke, wildfire smoke risks across Oregon and strategies to encourage people to take protective action during wildfire events.
Education
Lee earned a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resource Management from Northern Arizona University. She earned a Master of Science in GIS and Remote Sensing from Mississippi State University. She earned a PhD in Learning Technologies from Florida State University.
Professional Background
Lee has over a dozen years of professional experience using GIS to support decision-making across disciplines, from disaster management to agricultural research. She enjoys sharing lessons learned from these experiences with students to help them develop the practical skills they will need to succeed in the field and realize their goals. Lee enjoys working with students and is readily available to talk with them to stay engaged even during asynchronous courses.
