Jill Valdez is a passionate educator with over 20 years of teaching and coaching experience. She is focused on building positive relationships and staying relevant with best practices in the teaching and learning space.
Education
Jill earned her Bachelor of Science in Sociology from the College of Charleston and her Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Northern Colorado.
Professional Experience
As a current Teaching and Learning Specialist at University College, Jill supports adjunct faculty with instruction and course maintenance, coordinates the Teaching Excellence Program, and assists with onboarding new instructors. Previously, she worked in the K-12 arena serving as a classroom teacher, followed by a consulting role that focused on designing and delivering online and onsite professional development to educators across the country.
Teaching Philosophy
Jill is a firm believer that words hold power and there should be great consideration when crafting and delivering messages, whether in a professional, personal, or academic setting. She enjoys working with students in developing their skills and confidence in writing. Jill strives to create a classroom environment where formative assessment is paramount, students have voice, and wins (no matter the size) are celebrated. She devotes time to providing meaningful feedback that moves learning forward and is invested in student success.
