Global Society: Structures and Stakeholders

This course provides students with an introduction to the major actors, structures, forces, and issues in contemporary global society. Taking a nuanced view of the global landscape, the course considers the values, interests, and ideas of a variety of stakeholders—including nation-states, global corporations and banks, intergovernmental institutions, non-governmental organizations, and grass-roots initiatives—in order to assess some of the ways in which these actors both manage and contest the world's power and resources. Students will also apply relevant concepts to their own personal and professional experiences so as to better situate themselves in this larger global complex of world politics.
